Mattei Maintenance Kits Explained: Which Kit Does Your Compressor Need?
On most Mattei compressors, Kit A is the basic service and the kits get more involved as you move toward D. RVX and RVD work differently: their letters are tied to specific components, so match the contents rather than treating the letter as a service level. Your model and serial number confirm the right kit, especially on an older unit. Mattei documents kit contents and intervals, which lets you check the box against your manual before you order.
How the letters work
Service hours and kit contents tell you what each letter covers. On ERC, AC, Optima, Maxima and Blade compressors, the A to D letters generally climb with hours and the amount of work involved. Kit A includes basic items such as an air filter and O rings, while Kit D is usually more involved and often a rebuild, depending on the compressor.
For a concrete example, look at the ERC 15 to 22, ERC 1018 to 1030, AC 15 to 22 and Optima 15 to 22 group. Its first three kit intervals show how the work builds:
- Kit A, 2,500 hours: air filter, oil return valves and O rings.
- Kit B, 5,000 hours: oil filter, O rings and thermo bulb.
- Kit C, 10,000 hours: separators, seals and oil return valves.
The ERC and AC 4/5 group also has a Kit D at 20,000 hours, listed as a proactive overhaul kit. Match each kit to your specific Mattei model, because the contents can change even when the letter stays the same.
The exceptions: RVX and RVD
RVX and RVD kits need a different reading. On RVX, RVXi, RVX UP and RVD machines, the letters identify specific components, so match the contents instead of assuming a later letter means a larger service.
For RVX, Kit A is listed at 2,500 hours, Kit E is a thermostatic valve kit at 7,500 hours, Kit F covers the elastic element at 20,000 hours, and Kit D is an oil seal replacement kit at 40,000 hours. The order of those letters does not give you the service order. On RVD, Kits D and E are both 4 year items, so read the component description and check it against the kit your manual calls for.

| ERC 15 to 22, AC 15 to 22, Optima 15 to 22 | Kit B | 5,000 hours | Oil filter, O-rings, thermo bulb |
| ERC 15 to 22, AC 15 to 22, Optima 15 to 22 | Kit C | 10,000 hours | Separators, seals, oil return valves |
| ERC 4/5, AC 4/5 | Kit D | 20,000 hours | Proactive overhaul kit |
| Blade 15/18/22 | Kit A | 2,500 hours | Air filter, oil return valves, O-rings, gaskets |
| RVX, RVXi, RVX UP | Kit A | 2,500 hours | Air filter, oil plug O-ring |
| RVX, RVXi, RVX UP | Kit E | 7,500 hours | Thermostatic valve kit, O-ring |
| RVX, RVXi, RVX UP | Kit F | 20,000 hours | Elastic element, O-rings |
| RVX, RVXi, RVX UP | Kit D | 40,000 hours | Oil seal replacement kit |
The hours in the table come from the listed kits. Use it to narrow your choice, then confirm the schedule and contents for your exact compressor. If you are looking at a different size or model, check that machine's manual and kit listing before using an interval from another row.
Start with the serial number, especially on older machines
Most customers who call us already know which kit they need. Mattei documents the kit contents and hours well, so the question is often whether the kit they found matches their particular machine. The serial number is what customers usually give us, especially for older units, and it helps us confirm the right kit when the model or old part number needs checking.
If you prefer to browse first, start with our Mattei maintenance parts collection. You can also look through the Kit A, Kit B, Kit C and Kit D collections.
Mattei changed the part numbers
Mattei updated its kit part numbers a couple of years ago. Manuals usually still show the older part and kit numbers, which can make a correct kit look unfamiliar when you search for it today. Our Mattei kit titles carry the old IF57 reference, while the current Mattei number appears as the SKU. Checking both numbers is a practical way to connect a manual entry with the current listing.
For example, the Kit A listing for the ERC 15 to 22 group has IF57B24873 in its title and 20010580 as the current SKU. If your manual gives you the IF57 number, compare it with the product title and then check the SKU and contents on the page.
Check the kit against your exact model
Blade is where the full model name deserves attention. Mattei names Blade 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 7 and 11, each in LX, HX and HHX versions. A kit identified for a main Blade size may also fit its sub models, but the HX line is not always a perfect match. We confirm it against the exact model and serial number before you settle on a kit.
For a Blade 5 HX, give us the full designation and serial number so we can confirm whether the main Blade 5 kit fits that version.
Buying the kit and the part together
The most common ordering mistake we see is missing what is already inside a kit. One customer looked for an air filter separately, although the filter was part of the maintenance kit they needed. Read the contents before adding the same part on its own, particularly when the next service interval is already due.
Another customer called us for an air end and also needed an air filter. We quoted the air end separately, outside the maintenance kits, and they chose Kit A as well.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Mattei Kit A and Kit B?
On the ERC, AC and Optima 15 to 22 group, Kit A is listed at 2,500 hours with an air filter, oil return valves and O rings. Kit B is listed at 5,000 hours with an oil filter, O rings and a thermo bulb. Check the listing for your model before using that example as your schedule.
Do the kit letters mean the same thing on every Mattei compressor?
On ERC, AC, Optima, Maxima and Blade, A to D generally climbs with hours and involvement. On RVX and RVD, the letters are tied to specific components, so match the contents rather than reading the letter as a level of service. Your model and manual tell you which rule to use.
My manual shows an IF57 part number. Is that still the right kit?
It may be the older reference for the kit you need. Mattei changed its part numbers a couple of years ago, and manuals usually still show the old ones. Compare the IF57 number in your manual with the product title, then check the current Mattei SKU and kit contents. If the numbers or model do not line up, send us the serial number for a closer check.
Will one Mattei kit fit every model in a series?
Do not assume that it will. The main kit for a Blade size typically crosses over to its sub models, but we always confirm the exact version. Blade 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 7 and 11 each have LX, HX and HHX designations, which makes the full model and serial number useful when you order.
Can I buy an air filter on its own instead of a full kit?
Check your kit contents first. An air filter can be part of Kit A, as one customer found when they looked for it separately. If your compressor is also due for that kit, comparing the full parts list will tell you whether the separate filter is the item you actually need.
Get the right Mattei kit the first time
Send us your full model and serial number, along with any IF57 number shown in your manual. We can cross reference the old number to the current SKU and check the kit contents for your service. If you are comparing oils for the same service, our Mattei oil guide covers RotorOil F2 and V-Life Food.
