Choosing the Right Oil and Quantity for your Mattei Compressor
With many compressor options and variants, choosing the right oil and quantity for your Mattei compressor can be confusing. Whether you're trying to do routine maintenance, refresh your Mattei compressor, or maintain the factory warranty, here is your ultimate guide to oil types and capacity for Mattei.
Mattei RotorOil F2: The Main Mattei Oil Offering
When it comes to choosing the right oil for your Mattei compressor, 99 times out of 100, the answer will be RotorOil F2. This is the main oil offering for Mattei and works with most, if not all, of Mattei's compressors.
Sold in quantities of 5 liters, 20 liters, or 200 liters, RotorOil F2 by Mattei is designed specifically for their rotary vane & classic lines of compressors. Whether you have an ERC model with only a few horsepower or an Optima model boasting 150+ horsepower, RotorOil F2 is your top choice. Mattei V-Life Food & V-Life Food Extreme: For Food & Beverage Applications
If you're in a food, beverage, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, it's likely that your compressor requires the V-Life Food lubricant upgrade. For compliance, your oil must be NSF H1 registered.
V-Life Food & V-Life Food Extreme are designed specifically for compliance with food safety regulations, while maintaining your compressor warranty. These are OEM oils designed by Mattei. V-Life Food is sold in quantities of 3.8, 19, and 208 liters, while V-Life Food Extreme comes in either 19-liter or 208-liter configurations.
What is the difference between V-Life Food & V-Life Food Extreme?
While both options carry H1 classification, the main difference lies in the compressors they are designed for. For most Mattei compressors, V-Life Food is the right choice. However, if you have a compressor that features Mattei's Xtreme Oil Injection Technology (typically higher-end options like the RVX UP or Maxima), you'll need V-Life Food Extreme. This oil is designed to handle intense thermal loads and provide superior cooling for demanding manufacturing applications.
What about Mattei V-Life Xtreme?
If you are in a non-food environment but still have a compressor that features Xtreme Oil Injection, you may have purchased V-Life Xtreme in the past. However, as of 2025, V-Life Xtreme was discontinued by Mattei. RotorOil F2 is now the recommended oil for all compressors, regardless of whether they feature Xtreme Oil Injection technology or not.
If you need clarification or want to ensure RotorOil F2 is the correct oil for your application, reach out to us here at A1! We can always confirm the right oil for your setup.
How much oil does my Mattei Compressor require?
Oil quantities vary greatly across different Mattei compressors. For example, some ERC models take as little as 2 liters of oil, while the larger Optima models can take as much as 100 liters of oil. For a comprehensive breakdown, we recommend consulting your Mattei owner's manual or contacting A1 Compressor Warehouse directly for guidance on your specific model.
As a certified Mattei distributor, we have access to full specification sheets for all current and most legacy models. Our team can confirm the correct oil type and capacity for your specific compressor quickly so you can get back up and running.
